It has been so long since I last wrote in my blog...I don't remember if I know how to. I have been so busy the past two weeks, and there has barely been a time to take a breath. Junior Woodcraft Camp kicked off on a blistering Saturday morning and ended this past Wednesday. I realize now why I teach unattached in Woodcraft Camp haha and at times I could tell that I had little to no experience with kids that age, at least not 24 hrs a day.
Regardless of the fact that I was exhausted, Emily and I had so much fun with our ten girls. They were ages 6-9 and seeing as we had a wide range of ages in the cabin, this lead to an interesting dynamic and unique relationships. The girls made me smile and laugh everyday, with their never ending questions, funny faces, and their obsession with all the boy councilors. I forget how different 7 year olds are from even the regular Woodcraft campers, I never realized how much time and work it took just to get them through our daily schedule. Getting "whats for dinner?" and "are we having milk and cookies?" questions every single day became the norm, and by the fourth day of asking it no longer irritated me.
"MJ" as the girls called him, for his killer dance moves and love of Michal Jackson songs. Let me remind you...he is 7 years old!! Crazy right!?
At Opening Ceremonies the first day of camp...let the fun begin!
Waiting to shoot off rockets on the last day for the parents, everyone was more than ready to go home! (including the counselors)
Although it was challenging throughout the five days, I still found myself thinking about them and missing them the day after they left, and I did not know what to do with all the free time! The day the kids left, a group of us went out to eat at Edgewater to celebrate the end of Junior Woodcraft/beginning of Woodcraft Camp and then went to watch Toy Story 3 at a theatre in Plymouth. If you havn't seen it yet ..you need to. Relive your childhood days, laugh at the jokes that only adults would understand, and love on those characters that will always remain close to your heart.
The resting was short lived though, as 6 week Woodcraft Camp is right around the corner and the first round of kids come tomorrow. I'm nervous but excited for it all to begin again, and I love what I do (even though my friends call me lazy for it). I teach swimming and lifeguard for the kids, and I love it because even though I do come on contact and develop relationships with the campers, I am still able to leave at night and go home. Its the best of both worlds, literally!
Happy Friday and have a great weekend! I'm going to go get some of this sunshine before the real heat of the summer is upon us. :)
How can you not smile when you see this face every morning?? But don't let her fool you....
